Problem Note 51697: SIZE_OF_OUTER_MAX might filter out valid pack sizes when BREAK_PACKS=0 in SAS® Pack Optimization
In SAS® Pack Optimization, the SIZE_OF_OUTER_MAX setting might filter out valid pack sizes when BREAK_PACKS=0. The issue causes inner pack sizes that are less than the value specified by SIZE_OF_OUTER_MAX to be omitted even when BREAK_PACKS=0 is also specified.
In addition, the following error message might be generated in the RES_MESSAGE table:
ERROR: No valid inner pack sizes remain that will satisfy SIZE_OF_OUTER_MAX. Pack Recommendation cannot proceed.
Both the SIZE_OF_OUTER_MAX and the BREAK_PACKS settings can be found in the REQ_PACKREC_SETTING table.
A workaround for this issue is to set SIZE_OF_OUTER_MAX equal to a large value such as 1000 when used in conjunction with BREAK_PACKS=0.
